In the Pandiya Naadu region, there are 18 sacred Divyadesams, each with unique significance. A notable feature across all these Divyadesams is that the presiding deity, Perumal, is found facing east, symbolizing divine auspiciousness and grace.
Among these, nine Divyadesams hold a special place and are collectively known as “Nava Tirupathi.” These include Thirukkurugoor, Thirukkoloor, Thirupperai, Thiruvaikundam, Thiruvaragunamangai, Thirukkulandai, Thiruppulingudi, Thirutholaivillimangalam, and Thiruccheerivaramangai. These temples are celebrated for their unique spiritual significance and historical importance.
