108 Divyadesams - The Sacred Temples of Lord Vishnu
The 108 Divyadesams are a group of revered temples dedicated to Lord Maha Vishnu, celebrated in the Vaishnavite tradition. These temples were glorified in Tamil hymns called Pasurams by 11 of the 12 Azhwars, who were incarnations (Hamsams) of Lord Vishnu. The unique tradition of praising Vishnu (Perumal) and His consort (Thayar) through these hymns is known as Mangalasasanam.
These sacred hymns, composed in simple Tamil, encompass the essence of the Vedas, Upanishads, and Brahma Sutras. The great Vaishnavite acharya, Saint Nadhamunigal, compiled these hymns into what is now revered as the Nalayira Divya Prabandham (Tamil Veda).
